“Don’t be afraid to be amazing.” -Andy Offutt Irwin
I found this awesome little inspiration card thing at Target. It’s almost like the quote-a-day calendars, but there are no dates. There are simply a bunch of square, black cards with white lettering sharing inspiring words in a little gold-framed box. It was in this random section of gifts that you probably give to coworkers you don’t know or distant cousins whose grad party you are attending.
So naturally I bought it for myself. Ha!
If you know me, you know I love those inspirational quotes.
Like I could eat them up for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
If it were socially acceptable, I would line each room in my house (err, if I had my own house) with one beautiful, soulful, inspirational quote after another.
What is holding you back?
The quote that was showing was the Andy Offutt Irwin one, “Don’t be afraid to be amazing.”
It spoke to me so specifically because right now, I am a little fearful. It’s challenging trying new things that go against the norm. It’s hard putting yourself out there (like I talked about in the first post ever on this blog).
I feel like we tend to think we are afraid of failing. Or afraid of what others think. And that is true to some degree.
I think we are really afraid of what will happen if we succeed.
What will happen if that thing we are boldly stepping out to do…actually works??
Will we be able to handle it?
Will we crack under the pressure?
Will people still like me if I’m more successful than them?
Will people eventually find out that I’m an imposter who has no idea what the heck I’m doing? (<-that’s another topic entirely, but it bears mentioning here.)
I think in order to succeed, we need to be in the mindset of success. My best moments tend to happen when I just go for it day after day—whether I think anyone is paying attention at all–because I believe in what I’m doing. I believe I’m successful already.
Maybe if we lose the fear of being awesome, magic will happen.
So will you join me in working on this? Setting aside our fears of being amazing and successful?
I really think we can do this!!
P.S. I did 3 images with the wrong word (awesome instead of amazing) and realized..that still works. I might even like the mess-up it better. 😉
Are you letting the fear of being amazing hold you back?
What is that one thing that you’ve always wanted to do, but have held back for some reason?
